The option the U.S. is contemplating in the South China Sea, direct military action, risks drawing it into open conflict with China. Beijing immediately suggested America would be crossing a line if it goes ahead with the plan.

The hope is, that both the US and China know how to play game theory well, and that the strategies would be carried out perfectly. That is a hope, more than an assumption.
